  1. Pick the right holiday destination. Some holiday destinations are cheaper than others. Check the cost of food and drinks in your destination. This can substantially add to the cost of your holiday.
  2. Avoid going on holiday in peak seasons. The key is to book as early as you can and be flexible and travel outside of school holiday periods.
  3. Book a holiday package (where flights, airport transfers and accommodation is included) rather than booking everything separately. Also many resorts offer some or all meals in their accommdation packages, meaning there is less to pay for while on holidays.
  4. Book your holiday online. The internet is filled with travel deals, last minute holiday offers.
  5. Have a daily spending budget - and stick to it. If you feel comfortable enough, leave the credit card at home.
  6. Turn off your mobile. Using your mobile phone overseas can give you an unpleasant phone bill when you get home. Instead try to text or if you have to talk use Skype.
  7. Obey the law. You don't want to pay unnecessary speeding fines, fine for not wearing a helmet etc.
  8. Excess luggage. Avoid excess luggage fees by weighing your luggage before your departure and most hotels have scales in the room so you can weigh the luggage before you go home.
  9. Whenever you can - walk. Avoid public transport and especially taxis. Walking is a great way to experience a holiday destination, as you can experience it by foot.
  10. Avoid exchanging money at the airport, money exchange offices at airports are known for the adding of additional fees.
