Darwin, the Northern Territory's tropical capital, is a multicultural metropolis. More than 50 nationalities make up the city's population, including the traditional landowners of the area, the Larrakia Aboriginal people. Darwin is an good base from which to explore the many attractions in the north, including the thundering waterfalls of Litchfield National Park, sandy beaches in the Tiwi Islands, teeming wildlife around Mary River, and magnificent Aboriginal rock art at the World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park.
Further south, in the deep centre of Australia, sits Australia's most recognisable natural icon, UIuru (Ayers Rock). Uluru is part of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, which is also home to the equally impressive Kata Tjuta rock formation (The Olgas).
