Australian Capital Territory Travel News, Guides & Information

The ACT is the capital territory of the Commonwealth of Australia, often referred to as the 'Bush Capital' because of the large areas of bushland reserve that cover it.

The ACT is home to Canberra, Australia's only planned city, constructed in 1913 as the nation's capital. The city was designed by American architect Walter Burley Griffin after he won an international contest in 1912. His design sought to celebrate the natural environment of the area - this spirit is evident in the city as it stands today.

As the site of Parliament House, Canberra is Australia's political centre, and home to many national treasures, including the National Museum, National Gallery and War Memorial. More than just politics, Canberra also has a vibrant culture of dining and nightlife.

South of Canberra is a nature-lover's paradise. Half of the ACT is protected as national park or reserve, offering excellent holiday opportunities for camping, bushwalking and bird-watching.

Accommodation in the ACT, combined with travel and touring, can be easily planned with the range of available ACT holiday packages at Creative Holidays.
